Publisher: Galerna

Are we governed by algorithms? What impact do they have on our lives? Do they discriminate? Is there an ethics of artificial intelligence?

The empire of algorithms...

In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, power is in the hands of enigmatic, silent and inexplicable algorithms that, for the moment, seem to be the only ones outside the Law.

They created a new empire which is in the hands of a few but very powerful people. Under this new paradigm, humans, heavily impacted by technology and climate change, are experiencing an identity crisis and a reconfiguration of their foundations.

‘The Empire of Algorithms’ is a book that lays bare the consequences of the new empire of artificial intelligence, showing how it impacts on our human rights. It does this through real, everyday cases: social networks, facial recognition, algorithmic biases, the environment, among many others.

The book has 3 central axes: the gender perspective, the vindication of the Ibero-American identity (IA in Spanish) and technological humanism. In the last chapter, it offers a hopeful message through keys for the development of a fair and inclusive AI that will allow us to overthrow its current empire. Through these pages, power will pass to each and every one of us.
